In this book, Darrow creates an interesting background for Avon and emulates the bantering style of dialogue that Blake's 7 was known for pretty well, but unless are a fan of the show it's likely not for you. The story is centered around the relationship between Avon, Vila and their mutual respect and disdain for their cowardice and ruthlessness.

There are some truly thrilling scenes, as Avon is forced to make the difficult choices to protect his team and this shows his soft side. The characters are given a good amount of depth and each one has their own unique character that makes them believable. This is a story that you'll be eager to read more about. The writing is flawless and there is an authentic sense of the world that it is set. It's a masterpiece from an author at the peak of her ability.

Avon's dedication to bringing the best of commercial fiction to the broadest possible audience continues to be the case today.
